Eco Schools Green Flag

A warm welcome back to school after the April holiday, we hope you are all rested and ready for the summer term. We start off this term with some excellent news: Jeanette has led St. Crispin’s to another Green Flag award! The whole school has been working hard at recycling and using less energy. We have been rewarded with a Green Flag and have put in an order for a flag pole to show it off. Well done, everyone, keep up the good work!

New Uniforms!

As part of our drive to enhance objects of reference around the school and provide visual clues for our learners, we used part of our pupil equity fund to issue all pupils with new jumpers and polo shirts. These contain the St. Crispin’s logo and are a great point of reference for children coming to school. Pupils have been wearing their new uniforms and everyone looks great!

Santa Barge

Our broad and general classes visited the Santa Barge in the run up to the end of term. All pupils who attended had a lovely experience, travelling on the barge up and down the canal. There was even a surprise visitor – Santa found our pupils and had a present for everyone! Many thanks to our friends at the Seagull Trust for this fantastic opportunity. Pupils (and staff) had a wonderful time. See you next year!

Christmas card competition winners!

Classes across school have been gearing up for Christmas. This year, we got busy with our crafting skills and entered Edinburgh Schools Christmas card competitions. We are delighted to announce that 2 of our pupils have won prizes!

Kirsten Mackenzie was chosen as the school winner for the office of Daniel Johnson MSP with her fabulous, glittery Christmas tree.

Pawel Wielachowski was chosen as the school winner for the office of Iain Murray MSP with his entry of Christmas trees at night.

Here are photos of the winning entries. Well done to everyone who took part and congratulations, Kirsten and Pawel!

Happy Hallowe’en!

Ghosts, ghouls and witches all made their way to St. Crispin’s yesterday for a fabulous,  fun filled day. Classes have been busy with Hallowe’en themed group work and cooking sessions, as well as making spooky sounds in Music and creating bone-jittering journey sticks in P.E. Our fabulous staff got in the scary spirit with a “Wake Up, Shake Up” to Thriller first thing in the morning, many thanks to Mairi for coordinating and organising. Happy Hallowe’en, everyone!

October update

Welcome back to all of our staff and pupils! Everyone seems to be rested and relaxed after half term. We are welcoming new staff this week: Nicole in Blue Class, Sharon in Yellow Class, Lachlan in Purple Class and Louise in Silver Class. We also welcome back Jo from maternity leave and wish Aga all the best as she begins maternity leave.

This term promises to be busy with preparations for Hallowe’en and Christmas on the horizon, as well as class work and continuing opportunities for classes across the school to participate in the wider community with visits to the Santa Barge, the Yard, Music for All, the Lyceum and more.

Reviews for pupils start this week – double check your diary to make sure you know when your child’s is and please call us if you’re unsure. Check back next week for some photos of our classes enjoying their learning!

Term Update – September 2018

Hello all,

We have been busy settling back into school and everyone has been getting used to their new classes, new teachers and new routines. The curriculum is in full swing and pupils are enjoying a range of opportunities across the school!

We have already had a parent/carer teacher consultation to discuss targets for the year and had a great turnout of 85%. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it and to all of our support staff who gave up their time to provide childcare facilities during appointments.

As well as our usual classroom activities, we have been getting out and about, putting St. Crispin’s on the map! All of our primary classes are participating in visits to the Yard. Secondary pupils are enjoying exploring the autumn in Outdoor Education with Mairi. The gardens are full of fruit: all classes have been picking apples and plums and making jam and baked goods.

Silver Class had a visit from the Holyrood Park Rangers and were learning about life in old Edinburgh. Gold Class have started their busy transition programme and are enjoying weekly sessions at Music for All, as well as visits from Edinburgh College. Pupils across the school are participating in yoga and we had a lovely visit from our pets as therapy friends, Ollie and Susan.

In Music, pupils have been enjoying using our new sub-pacs with Di. We have received some of our new bikes and they are being put to the test in the playground by a group of willing volunteers! The Lyceum Project and Inspire Drama start next week and our senior classes will be visiting ABC bikes for weekly sessions as part of their SQA and ASDAN awards. Below are some photos of the new term getting off to a great start. Check back soon for more updates!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to all of our staff and pupils! As our first week draws to a close, we have been delighted to get back into the swing of things for the new school year. Pupils are settling in to their new classes and have already had lots of fun and learning opportunities this week through classroom activities, P.E., Music and Outdoor Education.

We have a very busy term ahead with lots of exciting opportunities for our learners both inside and outside of the classroom. Primary classes will be visiting the Yard and enjoying drama sessions with Inspire. Purple and Pink classes will be working with the Lyceum Project on an intepretation of Peter Pan, Gold Class are looking forward to starting Music for All and Silver Class are gearing up to get the Tuck Shop running! As well as this, we have more sessions planned with our friends at Blazing Saddles and everyone is eagerly awaiting the delivery of our new bikes.

Permission forms for trips, photography and medication have gone home to all pupils, please look out for these in bags and return ASAP. Parents/carers of Senior Phase pupils have received invites to a transition event which is sure to be informative and get the Transition Year off to a flying start.

We are looking for new members for our Parent Council and would welcome parents/carers across all classes to get involved, letters will be going home in the next 2 weeks.

We look forward to the year ahead with all of our learners and their families. Keep checking the website and Twitter for our weekly updates to enjoy photos, class news and all things St. Crispin’s!
